Category: accessible Devices
I am curious to see what anyone thinks about the new bookport plus. It sounds really cool so was wondering if anyone has used it yet and what they think of it.
I have not tried that one, but have tried all the others I think.
My problem with all of these devices is that, yes, they are cool, and relatively inexpensive compared to their predecessors, but for $400 you can get an iPod Touch, probably 32gb, even 64gb, you can get an iPhone with 2-year contract, or an iPad (well, iPads are $499 I think).
The functionality of these devices is so infinitely more than the Daisy players, and the size difference is not significant really.
With a good Daisy playback app, you also get almost all the functionality of the Daisy players, plus infinitely much more.
So, it is a bit of a competition.
What is cool about Daisy players like the Plextalk and, I think, the BookPort Plus, is that you can record and make bookmarks in the recordings as you are listening to a lecture or in class, so you can quickly find the important sector afterwards.
Of course one could write an iPad app for that, if one hasn't already.
I'm going to have a bookport soon, so will let you know. I'm excited. To the person who thinks we should read our books on Iphones etc, I'd just say that I understand your points, but I hate touch screens. I find them to be super frustrating. I don't want a phone with a touch screen and I certainly don't want to have to fight with a touch screen to hear my music. Therefore, I'm super jazzed about the availability of devices just for reading books. I read like a fiend and am very excited to have a portable device so that I can increase my accessibility to my books.
